MLA's spending on worng things

So when Richard Hulburt says that he is truly sorry, what does he mean, does he mean that hes sorry for spending our money for his own use or sorry he got caught. The man spent 2400$ on a tv and paid 600$ to get it installed at his office, and he didnt even mention it when he was saying sorry for the 8000$ generator, that he said he was gonna pay back..but hes only paying it back now that he got caught.he claimed up to 29000$ in items and more,He isnt the only one to spend a shit load of our money on themselves ,Len Goucher was the MLA that spent the most,he bought 11 computers and 12 printers, that totalled to about 39000$ in electronics ,like 5 digital cameras and 4 video cameras.
wouldnt it be better off using this money on other things like computers for schools and supplies for ground search and recue,or funding of local events like the bike rally or town upkeep..or just about anything better than giving these assholes a better and cushy life so they can enjoy tvs and supper out at the best restaurants in Halifax...i mean come on,Richard resigned and he still gets 21000$ because he steps down and 42000$ pension.
Richard was 3rd on the list for the most spending.

  1. They're saying that Richard Hurlburt's generator that he got reimbursed for $8,000 actually cost about $1,000. Sound fishy anyone?

  2. and that no one ever saw a 42 inch TV EVER in his office. where did it go? Did he ever buy the products mentioned or was it a scam?
How do you find your way if you are ever lost? Find an MLA and follow them, as they all have expenses for over $500 GPSs.Don't they know their way from home to the legislature?
No money to support a ferry that a towm/province depends on, but LOTS of money for printers, GPSs, Laptops and briefcases. GO FIGURE!

  3. Instead of an over $500 GPS they could do like the rest of us, STOP and ASK directions like the rest of us common people.

  5. When I sit back and think about it, no one can completely blame the MLAs for the crazy spending sprees. Someone had to collect the receipts and issue the cheques to pay them back. Who is this person? Why were they not questioning the expenses? I think someone should be questioning them. At most private industry jobs expense accounts are closely monitored and do not need an auditor general to point out inappropriate spending.

  6. Yes, we can blame the MLAs. Sure, the system is broken (i.e. the Speaker monitors the receipts, and he's "one of the gang"), but where is the integrity/decency from our elected officials? Just because you can spend recklessly doesn't mean you should. It's a culture of entitlement in there, with a "me first" mindset. And also keep in mind that there's thousands of dollars in available spending (i.e. apartments in Halifax, etc.) that DON'T require any receipts. One would be pretty naive to think that most of these guys are paying back this money if they're not using it all (or any of it). An online article last week said Hurlburt collected over $150,000 in aparment allowance money over 10 years while he stayed with his wife. There probably was never any apartment. They get a $45,000 allowance to run their offices, no receipts needed. I wonder how much of this is paid back if not needed. Makes your head spin.

  7. ..and Richard claimed leasehold improvements as an expense, that was probably included in the rent and he used the money to renovate his house or something.
I wonder if they ever found the generator?
